Overview

Edge banding covers exposed edges of panel materials (like MDF or particle board) with a thin strip of material, providing a clean, finished appearance and protecting against moisture.

What is Edge Banding?

Edge banding is a thin strip (typically 1mm PVC) applied to visible edges of panels. It:

  • Conceals the raw core material of engineered panels
  • Provides a smooth, finished appearance
  • Protects against moisture infiltration
  • Available in matching colors/patterns to your panel material

Per-Edge Control

Cabinet Planner provides granular control over which edges receive banding:

  • Top edge — Upper edge of a panel
  • Right edge — Right side of a panel
  • Bottom edge — Lower edge of a panel
  • Left edge — Left side of a panel

Each edge can be independently toggled on or off, giving you complete control over your banding specifications.

Global Banding Controls

Three quick-action modes for batch control:

Auto Select
  • Intelligently applies banding to visible/exposed edges based on cabinet construction and position
Band All
  • Applies banding to all four edges of every part
Remove All
  • Removes all banding from every part

Banding in Cut Lists

When edge banding is configured:

  • Each part in the cut list shows which edges are banded (T/R/B/L indicators)
  • Linear meters of banding material are calculated automatically
  • Banding requirements appear in both CSV and PDF exports

Banding in PDF Reports PRO

The PDF manufacturing report includes:

  • Per-part banding specification table
  • Total linear meters per material/color
  • Visual indicators on technical drawings
  • Banding summary in the global BOM section
PDF reports are a PRO feature — available with the Pro plan (€20/month).

Default Settings

  • Banding material — PVC
  • Banding thickness — 1mm
  • Initial state — Auto-selected based on exposed edges

Tips

  • Use "Auto Select" as a starting point, then fine-tune individual edges
  • Visible edges (front-facing, ends of runs) typically need banding
  • Internal/hidden edges (against walls, joined to other cabinets) usually don't need banding
  • Always verify banding specifications in your export before sending to production
  • The linear meter calculation helps with material procurement and cost estimation
